Video: closing and award ceremony of “Laylun International Film Festival”

The international jury supervising the first International Laylun Film Festival, which is held in the camps of the displaced people of Afrin in Al-Shahba canton, honored the winning films in the competition, while the participants in the festival expressed their support for the resistance of the people of Afrin, amid wishes that the next Laylun Festival will be held in Afrin, liberated from the Turkish occupation and the militias affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, who call themselves the “Syrian National Army / Free Army.”

The first International Laylun Film Festival, which was organized by Afrin Cinema Committee, Afrin branch in Al-Shahba, finished screening the films on Sunday, September 27, on the stage of the festival in Barkhoudan camp in Al-Shahba canton, in the presence of hundreds of people and representatives of bodies and institutions of the Democratic Autonomous Administration.

The closing events began with a minute of silence, after which many words were delivered by the mother of the martyr Shazia Ibrahim, and the administrator in Afrin region Hadiya Youssef, co-chair of the Culture and Art Authority in Al-Shahba canton, Media Hamdak. The festival was able to echo the voice of the people of Afrin, the resistance fighters in Al-Shahba, and gathered all the countries of the world in the field of resistance and praised their continued steadfastness in the hope that they would return to Afrin, liberated from the Turkish occupation.

On the other hand, the members of the Preparatory Committee for the Laylun Festival thanked the people of Afrin and the administration for contributing to the launch and organization of the festival amid these circumstances and difficulties facing the region, and stressed that they did not resist the people of Afrin when they achieved these successes in the festival.

The festival continued its activities with the participation of the international jury of the Laylun Festival via Internet, who in turn expressed their thanks and great admiration for the Laylun Festival, its idea and the endeavors of the festival preparatory committee, and announced directly to the attendees about the winning films of the Laylun Awards.

The jury placed great interest and admiration for the film director from Afrin, which was directed in the midst of the conditions of displacement, forced displacement, and weak capabilities in the region, and bore the name “Towards the Sun”, and for that it awarded a special prize for women as the best director.

A prize was awarded to the film Spectrum of Time by Moroccan director Karim Tagawit, in addition to the animation award for “This party and the other side”, the best documentary award for “The Old Man and the Singer” by Iranian director Amir Osnalous, and the best short film award for “The Return” by the Kurdish director Salman Deniz. The Laylun Festival awarded the best production award for the film “For Freedom” by Arsene Glick.

The preparatory committee of the Laylun International Film Festival presented a souvenir bearing the logo of the Laylun Festival to the institutions and entities participating in the preparations, praising the success of the festival.

The curtain fell on the stage of the Laylun International Film Festival screenings, with singing performances being shown, to the interaction and applause of the attendees.
