Pro-Turkey Liwa’ Al-Shamal and Al-Hamzat excavating two archaeological hills in Afrin

The Turkish-supported Liwa’ Al-Shamal and al-Hamzah militias have been excavating two archaeological hills in Mobata district, under the supervision of Turkish intelligence, since the first day of Eid al-Adha, July 9, 2022.

According to our reporter, the “Liwa’ Al-Shamal” militia is carrying out sabotage excavations in the hill of the village of Avrazeh, located next to the old well, in search of antiquities and buried treasures.

While members of “Al-Hamzeh / Al-Hamzat Division” militia are excavating a hill located in the vicinity of the village of Jwaiq, opposite the junction of the town of Mobata, and they have found large archaeological building stones at the site.

Our reporter confirmed that sabotage excavations are being carried out under the supervision of Turkish intelligence in search of finds and buried treasures, and then are transported into Turkish territory.

While the Directorate of Antiquities of Afrin published on its official page videos showing the extensive excavation of the Kafr Lab archaeological site and the scattering of many pottery fractures over the wet soil and a heap of dust resulting from the sabotage excavation process.

The site of Kafr Lab is located about 25 km south of the center of Afrin city and to the southeast of the inhabited village of Basofan. It is one of the sites registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2011, and its church is one of the most well-preserved monuments, dating back to the sixth century AD.
