Video Exposes Violations by “Ninth Division” Militia against Kurds in Afrin

afrinpost-Exclusive

In a recent video posted on TikTok, IDP “Abu Ahmad Anjara” questions who has harmed the Kurds and profited from them. He directs accusations at leaders of the “Ninth Division – Syrian National Army” militia, including Abu Jalal and Captain Abdul Nasser Jalal Shalhoub from Darat Azza, western Aleppo countryside, along with his deputy and nephew, Haroun Rashid/Darat Azza, Raji Al-Helu, and Ahmed Maiki.

On the night of January 5th, 2024, elderly Kurdish couple Hamid Mustafa, 70 years old, and his wife Fatima Hanan, 68 years old, along with their sick daughter Gulistan, 25 years old, were subjected to an armed robbery, assault, and theft of gold jewelry, cash, and vandalism of their home in the village of Mamala Sharqi, Rajo sib-district. This occurred just meters away from a checkpoint of the “Ninth Division.”

Their case received media attention and public solidarity on social media platforms. Consequently, the division arrested the sons of “Abu Ahmad Anjara,” who are originally from Anjara town, western Aleppo countryside. He claims that his eldest son, Ahmed, is still detained by the “Military Police Branch in Rajo” with a broken hand and missing fingernails, to falsely incriminate him and his brothers. He also alleges receiving threats.

“Abu Ahmad” claims that he has had a longstanding dispute with Haroun Rashid for two years. The latter seeks to expel them from the village, leading to fabricated charges against his sons. Later, Abu Ahmad’s family seized houses in the neighboring village of Mamala Sharqi, inhabited since 2018.

Violations and Crimes

“Abu Ahmad” asserts that the leaders of the “Ninth Division” have harmed and unjustly treated Kurds in those villages, looting their olive oil, stealing railway tracks from their sector amounting to $80,000 USD, and stealing half a kilogram of gold from the Kurdish citizen Luqman ibn Haj Ismail’s house after falsely accusing him of PKK affiliation. He accuses the leaders of being thieves and questions why “Abu Alaa al-Taqqash” from the “Military Police Branch in Rajo” deported his cousin, Ahmed Ibrahim al-Taqqash, from the village, hinting at the latter’s involvement in violations.

Luqman and Masoud, Brothers

According to a local source, three years ago, Luqman and Masoud Ahmed, sons of Ismail, in their village Mamala Sharqi, Rajo sub-district, were subjected to harassment and fabricated charges of PKK affiliation by the “Ninth Division.” The militia raided their homes, stole gold jewelry and other items, arrested and tortured them for months, also causing Luqman’s divorce and forcing Masoud to emigrate to Europe.

It is noteworthy that the information obtained by afrinpost is public and known in the village, as evidenced by the recently published video. However, the brothers Luqman and Masoud refrain from disclosing further details or making statements, fearing further harassment and crimes against Luqman, his family, and his remaining elderly father in the village.
