Girl forcibly married to pro-turkey militant, returned to her family

The nephew of a leader in the Turkish-supported “Al-Hamza Division” militia called “Rami Batran” in the village of Basouta, kidnapped a 20-year-old orphan girl from the village, and forced her to marry him, taking advantage of her social status, and then returned her to her family after about 15 days passed, while “Al-Hamza Division” militia threatens her family to kill anyone who files a complaint against him, according to our reliable sources.

On the other hand, the girl’s family refused to receive her after she was returned and the element abandoned her amid information that she was sent to Turkey by her uncle (F), who is collaborating with “Al-Hamza Division” militia, for fear of threats that they are exposed to and to save the girl from being killed in the name of honor by her relatives, the sources added

It should be noted that these practices are repeated every now and then in the region. As forced marriage, kidnapping and arrest are still being carried out by the Turkish-backed Islamic militias in the occupied region of Afrin.

In March 2022, the Violations Documentation Center in Northern Syria documented the forced marriage of 12 girls to Turkish-supported militia leaders in Afrin, under the threat and extortion of their families, 9 cases of forced marriage in the city of Jarabulus and a case in the city of Azaz and Al-Bab, where 16 women were raped, as reported, since the Turkish incursion into northern Syria.
