Afrinpost – Special

Afrinpost correspondent in Sherawa district said that since yesterday, Sunday, the Turkish occupation has been carrying out a large-scale mine-laying operation in the areas located in the eastern countryside of Afrin region, in an effort to encircle Afrin to prevent the displaced from returning to their homes.

The reporter explained that mines are being planted in the area between the two villages of Jalbara / Jalbel and the occupied village of Maryamen, which are located on the boundary between Afrin and al-Shahba, indicating that the Turkish occupation had converted the area between the villages of Kabashin – Brad – Kimar into a minefield.

The areas separating occupied Afrin and the regime’s army’s control areas in the countryside of Aleppo, specifically in the area between the villages of Brad / Sherawa and the town of Nubul, witnessed the occurrence of the death of dozens of leaders and armed men of the Islamic militia “Free Army” fleeing from Daraa, while they were trying to leave the areas controlled by the Syrian regime. Towards the occupied Afrin region, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The “Ahrar Horan” group said, last Thursday, 08/13/2020, that a number of people from the Daraa governorate, including the leader of the opposition factions called “Ramzi Mahmoud Abazid”, died as a result of falling into a minefield in northern Syria, at dawn last Wednesday, while trying to cross regime areas.

According to the Syrian Observatory, 8 people managed to reach the occupied Afrin, while the rest returned to the regime-controlled areas that placed them under arrest.

And in April 2019, the Turkish occupation strengthened the zones by placing buffer walls between the occupied villages in Sherawa and the villages under the control of the Syrian regime forces, which was considered by the people of Afrin as conclusive evidence of the Turkish desire to annex the Kurdish region.
