Afrin Residents Released After Paying Turkish AuthoritiesHeavy Fines

In a recent development reported by our correspondent, Turkish authorities have released two residents from the occupied Afrin region after they paid fines exceeding eight thousand dollars.

Mr. Farhad Mohammed, a resident of Deir Suwan village in Sharan district, was freed on April 1st after paying a sum of six thousand dollars. He had been detained by the military police militia in early December 2023 on charges related to smuggling and had spent four months in A’zaz prison.

Similarly, Mr. Sleiman Jumaa Mohammed, from Ba’eh village in Sherawa district, was released on April 4th following the payment of a $2700 fine by his family. He was apprehended by the military police militia on January 24, 2024, while attempting to obtain an identity card from the local council associated with the Turkish authorities. It is worth noting that he was deported from Turkish territories to northern Syria had in November 2023.
