According to our sources on Afrin, the illegal sale of homes belonging to Kurdish citizens, as well as theft and looting of their properties, persist due to the inaction of the Turkish authorities in addressing the violations and restoring the rights to their rightful owners.
In one incident, an IDP from the Al-Maysar neighborhood in Aleppo sold a house located near Al-Ashrafiah Park to his cousin, “Ahmed Rajab Al-Hussein,” for $800 on July 22nd. The property originally belonged to citizen “Hassan Muhammad” from Habu village in the Mobata/Ma’batli sub-district.
Additionally, a member of the “Sultan Fatih” militia sold the house of citizen “Aref Ibrahim” from Badina/ Badanli village, in the Rajo sub-district, for the second time, receiving $900. The house is also located in Al-Ashrafiah neighborhood.
Additionally, on July 20th, a member of the “Sultan Murad” militia shot one of his comrades due to a dispute over the division of stolen goods taken from the homes of the people of the town of Bulbul. The injured individual is currently receiving medical treatment at the Specialized Hospital in Afrin.
Furthermore, armed thieves stole two batteries, an inverter, and two solar panels from the house of citizen “Khalil Aloo” in the Zaydia neighborhood in central Afrin, while he was in his village, Ali Jaro, in the Bulbul sub-district.
According to a report from “Syria Aala Tool,” the trend of selling homes of original residents at low prices has been prevalent in Afrin for several years. Prices range from $400 to $3,000, significantly below their real property value. These properties are sold under terms such as “low-cost house,” “free,” or “party-owned houses,” referring to properties whose ownership is associated with Democratic Union Party (PYD) members.
