The deputy of the Kurdish “Peoples’ Democratic Party” and a member of the Human Rights Committee in the Turkish Parliament, Umar Faruk Gergerli Oğlu, revealed the secret of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s moves in the region, his desire to expand regionally, impose his power in Iraq, Syria and Libya, and the reason for his conflict with Egypt, Greece and Cyprus .
He said in exclusive statements to Al-Arabiya.net that Erdogan is pursuing big dreams despite the decline in his popularity in the country, and despite the fact that he lost his position abroad for many years, he is trying to pursue his political agenda by taking new steps with which he tries to gain new influence and dominance in the Mediterranean and Black Sea, Libya, and the restoration of the Ottoman dream.
He added that the current Turkish government is weak and Erdogan is aware of this, and he believes that the current state of weakness in Turkey will be temporary and once his agenda is implemented, a large and imperialist power will return. He has a desire for revenge and wants to restore the situation to what it was 100 years ago, and therefore he always repeats: “We will take revenge on the past”
In order to achieve this, the Turkish parliamentarian says, Erdogan is trying to use “Islamism”, and seeks support for Islamic movements, and does not hesitate to work and coordinate with “ISIS”, the Muslim Brotherhood and other extremist and terrorist organizations when necessary. Therefore, these moves have led him to conflicts in the region, and have thrown him in more tensions with regional and neighboring countries, but he does not really care.
He says that conflict and polarization are the tools that Erdogan uses to strengthen his political positions, as he practices this in managing his conflict with Egypt, and tensions with Egypt may worsen because of his positions and ambitions that clash with Egypt’s interests, but he does not bother with that, but rather seeks one goal, which is to implement a 100-year-old grand plan in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, and hostility towards everyone who stands in his way.
Gergerli reveals that plan and says that it is the “Milli Charter” plan that the Turkish President is waving on every occasion, the last of which was what he said in 2016 at the battle to liberate Mosul, when he said when Turkey was excluded from the liberation of the city, “The Iraqis should read the charter to understand the meaning Mosul for us ”.
The Milli Charter is a plan issued in the year 1920 in Turkey, and Erdogan is taking it as a means to legitimize his moves in the region. It is considered a new delineation document for the borders of the Turkish state after the fall of the Ottoman caliphate idea.
It consists of 6 principles, including the future of Arab-majority areas, ensuring the security of Istanbul and the Sea of Marmara, overseeing the movement of trade in the straits on the part of Turkey, and considering the entire Kurdistan region in addition to northern Syria and its capital, Aleppo, northern Iraq and its capital, Mosul, and the Aegean islands, in addition to The island of Cyprus is completely part of the Turkish state.
Despite the disappearance of that plan after Turkey’s successive defeats in the early twentieth century, and its signing of the Treaty of Lausanne, it remained part of a Turkish dream that Erdogan is trying to revive today to legitimize his interventions in Syria, Iraq, Cyprus, Libya, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea at the same time, and the Turkish parliamentarian concludes by saying: “Erdogan is pursuing big and old dreams and will continue moves to implement them without realizing that the past cannot be retaliated against.”
