The Turkish occupation intends to remove the market targeted by the terrorist bombing, on the pretext of its proximity to the headquarters of the Turkish governor

Afrinpost – Special

Thursday morning, a number of shop owners went to the market, which was targeted in the last terrorist bombing on Tuesday, with the aim of cleaning them from the effects of the explosion and reopening them, but soldiers from the Turkish occupation asked them to stop.

According to “Afrinpost” sources inside the city, the Turkish occupation soldiers asked the owners of the shops gathered inside the destroyed market to stop carrying out cleaning, restoration and reopening, because they intend to remove the entire market completely and permanently.

Adding that the occupation argues that the market is stationed within the security square in which the Turkish occupation ruler resides, which was during the era of the Syrian regime the headquarters of the “courthouse and District Directorate”, and self-management took it as the seat of the “legislative body”, while the occupation forces deliberately fenced and transformed it into a security box.

The sources confirmed that the shops owners decided to continue the restoration of their stores, and to open them again, as the shops are considered the only source of their livelihood.

It is noteworthy that the Market Union, which is affiliated with the Civil Society Foundation during the era of “self-management”, established the market in 2016 with the aim of resolving the phenomenon of street vendors, and helping those with weak financial abilities to find a source of income for them under the conditions that the country was witnessing.

The market consists of about 150 small shops, which are covered with zinc roofs, and was a part of projects implemented by the municipalities of self-administration to organize Afrin and beautify it.
