Militant Sues Homeowner in Attempt to Avoid Rent, Seize Property in Afrin

Our correspondent reported that an IDP from Homs, known as “Abu Walid al-Homsi,” and affiliated with the “Mutasim Brigade” militia, recently filed a lawsuit against the homeowner of his residence in Al-Mahmoudiya neighborhood of Afrin. The apparent goal of the lawsuit is to avoid paying rent and attempt to seize ownership of the property.

When the homeowner, Abdo Hassan from the village of Burj\Birjikê, appeared in court, he was surprised to find that his tenant claimed the property did not belong to him. Judge Abdul Malik, also originally from Homs, pressured Hassan to waive a full year’s rent in order to settle the case.

This incident highlights the increasing legal pressures and property disputes faced by original Afrin residents as IDPs attempt to seize local properties.
