Our correspondent has reported three recent incidents of violations committed by armed IDPs and civilians, with no intervention or accountability from authorities:
- Non-Payment of Rent: An IDP from Ghouta in Damascus countryside has ceased paying rent for a house owned by Fareed Hassan, a resident of Jwaiq village. The house is located near Maysaloon School in Al-Ashrafieh district of Afrin city. Despite the minimal rent of 300 Turkish Lira (approximately 9 USD) per month, the IDP refuses to vacate the house. This follows protests by IDPs who oppose returning seized homes to their rightful Kurdish owners, claiming a right to occupy these homes without payment.
- Theft of Wheat: yesterday evening, 15 sacks of wheat, each weighing around 100 kg, were stolen from a field near the road connecting the villages of Tel Tawil and Ister, northwest of Afrin city. The stolen wheat belongs to Hanif Hamid Ali.
- Destruction of Olive Trees: Fourteen olive trees were cut down in a field near Raja village in the Maabatli sub-district. The trees were owned by a local resident.
The Turkish authorities have not investigated these incidents, which have become alarmingly routine as long as they affect Kurdish property owners. Victims of these violations are often too afraid to file complaints against the perpetrators, fearing further and more severe repercussions.
