A military mobilization grips the occupied city of Afrin on the evening of February 1, following the reported torture and death of an armed member from the Mawali tribe in one of the prisons controlled by the “Sultan Murad Brigade” militia.
According to our correspondent, dozens of Mawali tribe militants gathered outside the military hospital after the death of the individual, “Suttuf Muteb Al-Suttuf Al-Mafdi,” due to severe torture inflicted by militants led by “Abu Waleed Al-Azzi” within a prison in occupied Afrin.
Our correspondent noted that the Mawali tribe declared a general mobilization, urging its armed members to head swiftly to Afrin. The tribe holds the leaders “Abu Amsha” and “Abu Waleed Al-Azzi” responsible for Suttuf’s death. The doctors at the military hospital reportedly documented the young man’s death as resulting from a heart attack due to pressures exerted on him.
The correspondent clarified that the militia member killed under torture was involved in the abduction of the Kurdish engineer “Sheikho Haj Ahmad.” The “Murad” militia attempted to distance responsibility and charges from its leaders by sacrificing several of its members.
It is worth mentioning that the same militia kidnapped the Kurdish engineer “Sheikho Jameel Zada,” from the village of Zetunaka and the director of the Shara water station, on September 28, 2023, on his way from work in the town of Shara to his village. He remained captive for three and a half months, enduring torture. The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of $70,000, later reducing the amount to $20,000. He was eventually released in a staged operation on January 17.
Meanwhile, pro-Turkish media outlets falsely claimed that the military police militia in Afrin liberated the engineer “Sheikho” in a raid on the kidnapping site in the “Arabet Idris Brigade” headquarters, affiliated with the “Sultan Murad Brigade.” Some members of the “Sultan Murad” militia were allegedly arrested as a cover-up for the kidnapping crime.
