Militia Releases Alleged Kidnapper Following Turkish Intervention in Afrin

Yesterday, February 21st, the “Suleiman Shah/Al-Amshat” militia released the armed individual Qusai Rizq Al-Khalil, a member of the Mawali tribe, who had been detained for about a month and a half on charges related to the abduction of Kurdish engineer “Sheikho Haj Ahmad” in the occupied city of Afrin.

According to our correspondent, the release of the militia member came following mediation and pressure from the Turkish governor on the “Al-Amshat” militia. This pressure ensued after the governor’s visit on February 18th to one of the settlements inhabited by members of the Mawali tribe in the Rajo district. In exchange for the release, the Mawali tribe agreed to cease their threats of carrying out assassination operations against members and leaders of the “Al-Amshat” militia.

on February 1st, the Mawali tribe had declared a general mobilization, urging their fighters to swiftly move to the city of Afrin after the death of militant “Sattouf Mutab Al-Sattouf Al-Mufadi” inside a hospital in Afrin. His death occurred following severe torture inflicted by members of the “Murad” militia, led by “Abu Walid Al-Azzi,” inside one of the prisons in the occupied city of Afrin.

The tribe held leaders “Abu Amsha” and “Abu Walid Al-Azzi” responsible for Sattouf’s death. This came after an attempt by the “Murad” militia to absolve itself of responsibility for the engineer’s abduction, sacrificing several of its members, including Sattouf, in an effort to divert blame away from its leaders.
