afrinpost – Follow-up
Today, on February 1, the Afrin Liberation Forces issued a statement to the public, revealing a major operation in the village of Basilê/Basalhayya in the Sherawa district on January 30. The operation resulted in the death of 20 Turkish soldiers and SNA militia members, with 25 others injured. Additionally, five Liberation of Afrin fighters lost their lives.
The statement highlighted the collaboration between the Turkish forces and ISIS jihadist gangs in occupying Afrin, implementing policies of genocide, committing massacres against humanity, and displacing hundreds of thousands of people. It condemned the continuous attacks, killing thousands and targeting sacred values.
Emphasizing the militia’s attempt to silence the people through fear-inducing abductions and destruction of olive trees, a century-old source of livelihood, the statement pointed out the ongoing danger posed to the people and nature.
The statement also addressed the recent surge in Turkish attacks on areas where the people of Afrin reside, resulting in dozens of casualties, including children and women, especially due to aerial bombardment. The Afrin Liberation Forces asserted their commitment to defending their people and taking retaliatory actions.
The forces reported a successful operation against a Turkish army base in Basilê/Basalhayya village, causing significant losses to the enemy forces. Twelve Turkish soldiers and eight militia members were killed, with eight soldiers and 17 militia members wounded. Additionally, one ammunition box, one heavy weapons site, and two mobile cameras were destroyed, along with 18 other positions.
