Today, on January 24, Turkish intelligence arrested Firas Khalil, a 40-year-old resident of Deir Siwan village in the Sheran district, accusing him of leading the neighborhood council (Komin Al-Hay) during the previous Autonomous Administration in Afrin.
Firas, who had been residing in Lebanon, returned approximately two months ago and began working as a street vendor in the bazaar of Afrin. However, this morning, Turkish intelligence arrested him in A1l-Ashrafiya neighborhood of the occupied city of Afrin.
This incident follows the arrest of Almas, a sixty-year-old woman, two weeks ago. She is the wife of Omar Brim, an elderly man, and both had returned from the forcibly displaced areas in Al-Shahba last summer to the village of Hekeche in the Rajo district. Their arrest is based on allegations related to their involvement in night patrol duties during the previous Autonomous Administration in Afrin.
The Turkish authorities persist in arresting returning citizens to their homes in the occupied villages and Afrin city. These arrests involve fabricated charges linked to their previous association with the Autonomous Administration, creating an atmosphere of intimidation under the pretext of security needs.
