Local sources told afrinpost that a militia member named “Mohammed Farouk,” affiliated with the “Mua’tasim Brigade,” and hailing from Bab al-Neirab in Aleppo, has set up a checkpoint in Al-Ashrafieh neighborhood near the entrance of the Arc of Afrin. He imposes a toll on passing vehicles.
On the morning of January 10, “Mohammed” fired at a wholesale goods transport truck, alleging the driver did not stop at his checkpoint, with the intention of robbing and dismantling the vehicle to seize the money it carried.
Sources have also observed a member of the “Sultan Murad Brigade” militia named “Abdo Khero” imposing a monthly fee of 400 Turkish Liras on the shops on Al-Telal Street. Previously, the toll was 100 Turkish Liras, under the pretext of providing protection and guarding the establishments.
Moreover, “Abdo” robbed $400 from Makki Clothing stores, claiming it was a bribe, after the owners, who are originally from Azaz, had signed contracts with a relief organization. The organization distributed clothing purchase cards from Makki stores.
