In an ongoing pattern of intimidation against the residents of the Afrin region, Turkish-affiliated militias continue to arbitrarily detain civilians with the aim of extortion and intimidation.
Recently, the checkpoint of the political security militia in the city of Afrin, on Thursday, October 13th, detained two civilians. One of them, Bangin Ahmed Abdou, a 43-year-old resident of Kurzeleh village in the center of Afrin, was apprehended while returning from an olive oil mill to his village. He was taken to the city of Afrin without any charges filed against him and was released the following day after paying an undisclosed financial fee.
In the village of Badina, located in the Rajo sub-district, a Kurdish individual named Mohammed Hasbiro, 45 years old, was detained on October 13th by the Civilian Police militia with the aim of pressuring his wanted minor son.
According to our sources, the militia released Mr. Hasbiro the next day after his son, Mohammed Mohammed Hasbiro, voluntarily turned himself in without specifying the reason for the elder’s arrest.
