Armed Groups Steal Olive Harvest in Afrin Countryside, Exposing Contradictions

afrinpost-Exclusive

According to our correspondent in Afrin, olive fields belonging to several original inhabitants of Afrin have been subjected to theft in the vicinity of Kokabeh village in the Jindires sub-district of the occupied Afrin countryside.

The armed thieves stole from the fields of “Mohammed Sheikho and Ahmed Sheikho” from the village of Gundi Mezn in the Sherawa sub-district, and the field of “Abdulkarim Abdullah” from the village of Jadida in the Jindires sub-district.

These thefts contradict what has been promoted, suggesting that the Ministry of Defense in the so-called Temporary Syrian Government has requested armed militias in the Afrin region to facilitate olive farmers in harvesting their crops and not impose any taxes. This initiative aims to curb violations that have occurred over the past years against the owners of these olive fields, which Afrin is known for in contrast to other Syrian regions.

On October 18, afrinpost documented armed individuals stealing olives from fields located on the outskirts of the city of Afrin, near the Zeidiya neighborhood and towards Tall Tawil village.

Additionally, armed militias have erected about five new checkpoints on the road from Afrin to Bulbul, with the goal of imposing levies on vehicles, especially those carrying olive harvest from the fields toward the city of Afrin or the mills.
