The Turkish authorities have released two civilians, one of whom is from Arab origin in Afrin, after each paid a substantial fine of three thousand dollars in the occupied city.
According to our reporter, the Turkish-affiliated Military Police militia released the civilian named “Sabhi Al-Hussein” after he complied with a payment of 2500 dollars. As part of his release conditions, he was also coerced into signing a six-month lease agreement for his house. The agreement stipulates that he will regain possession of the property after the specified duration.
Originally from the town of Tel Daman, “Hussein” has been residing in Afrin for several years. After losing his house to the establishment of a Turkish military base on al-Feel Street in al-Ashrafieh neighborhood, he had requested its return, which led to his arrest on July 28, 2023, on charges of collaborating with the Syrian government.
Similarly, the Military Police militia released the Kurdish youth “Omar Ali” after he paid a fine of 500 dollars. However, his friend “Kamal Muhi Al-Din” remains in custody at the Military Police headquarters in Afrin.
The arrests occurred on July 31, 2023, when a patrol from the Military Police inspected residents’ IDs on the Sarfis Road in al-Ashrafieh neighborhood. Apart from the two Kurdish youths, “Kamal Muhi Al-Din” from the village of Chulaqa, aged 22, residing near al-Ashrafieh’s water reservoir, and “Omar Ali” from the village of Marateh, aged 25, five young Arab IDPs were also arrested. The reasons for their detention remain undisclosed by the authorities.
