Ahmed Gamal Kabso (Abu Gamal), the leader of the Military Police faction in the city of Afrin, has reportedly established a secret prison in the Asayish Women’s Building adjacent to the old Asayish General Building in the occupied city of Afrin.
According to reliable sources, Abu Gamal is detaining individuals who are relatively well-off in order to extort money from them. He has appointed Abu Ali, a former leader of the “Al-Jabha al-Shamiya” militia, to manage the prison, along with armed individuals hailing from the town of Tell Rifaat.
Ahmed Kabso, originally from Tell Rifaat, previously held a security leadership position in the “Al-Jabha al-Shamiya” militia. He left Afrin in October 2022 during the clashes between the “Al-Jabha al-Shamiya” militia and the terrorist organization “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.” Subsequently, the “Al-Jabha al-Shamiya” militia was expelled from Afrin. Kabso pledged allegiance to the terrorist organization and returned to Afrin, where he was appointed as the director of the Military Police in the occupied city of Afrin.
He is known to bribe Kurdish citizens in Afrin with significant amounts of money, leveling charges against them and negotiating to drop any accusations.
It should be noted that the Asayish General Building prison was uncovered during the armed incursion by militants and IDPs from the Ghouta region into the headquarters of the “Hamza/Hamzat Division” militia on May 28, 2020. Approximately 11 Kurdish women were discovered in the facility, appearing in a recorded video as irrefutable evidence of their captivity by the militia after a period of silence regarding their whereabouts.
Meanwhile, the Military Police, which uses the Commercial High School as its headquarters, operates a prison known as the Central Marateh Prison, located on the Marateh Road. This facility houses hundreds of original residents of Afrin. The prison is divided into two sections, one managed by the Military Police and the other by the Civil Police militia.
