The security apparatus of the terrorist organization Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has initiated a series of arrests targeting IDPs from the town of Hayan in northern Aleppo countryside. These individuals had participated in a protest in the occupied city of Afrin’s Ashrafieh neighborhood on the evening of June 9, where they chanted slogans opposing the group’s leader, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani.
This latest wave of protests follows ongoing demonstrations against the practices of the HTS organization and its arbitrary arrests of dozens of members of the Hizb al-Tahrir party and its supporters over the past month. The demonstrations have taken place in various locations within the HTS-controlled areas, including villages and towns in the Idlib province and northern Aleppo countryside.
On June 9, hundreds of citizens gathered in cities and villages such as Deir Hassan, Al-Fuah, Kulli, Bab, Sawran, Aazaz, and Afrin in northern Aleppo countryside, as well as in the Atma and Qarqoura refugee camps. Their demands include the immediate release of detainees and an end to arbitrary arrests targeting local residents.
Meanwhile, the HTS organization has detained two individuals. The first detainee, Fadi Al-Aboud, a member of the Hizb al-Tahrir party, was arrested in the moment of his departure from a mosque in the town of Al-Bara in southern Idlib countryside. The second detainee, Ahmed Al-Jazar, was apprehended in front of a mosque in the village of Abidinah in Jabal al-Zawiya, south Idlib countryside, on charges of incitement against the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham organization.
