In the past two days, the General Security Directorate of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) carried out a series of arbitrary arrests targeting members of the “Hizb ut-Tahrir” party and citizens who participated in widespread popular protests against the organization’s practices towards the local population.
During the campaign, the General Security Directorate arrested three individuals from the city of Hama. Security forces set up a checkpoint at the entrance of Al-Baraka camp and apprehended citizens from Hama, while others managed to escape to an unknown location. Additionally, another patrol arrested individuals identified as “Haj Abu Hassan Al-Hamwi, Abu Bakr Khadra Al-Hamwi, and Abu Fahd Kharsa Al-Hamwi.”
These arbitrary arrests come in the wake of expanding public protests against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). Hundreds of citizens took to the streets in villages and towns such as Atma, Sahara, Kallin, Suraan, Al-Bab, Azaz, Deir Hassan camps, Karama camps, Babka, and Ibdeita in peaceful and angry demonstrations, condemning the practices of “Tahrir al-Sham.”
