Turkish-backed militia leaders, along with their relatives who are IDPs and armed individuals, are actively engaged in illegal property transactions, exploiting the vulnerable situation of Kurdish citizens. These activities are being encouraged by the Turkish authorities as part of their controversial demographic change plan in the occupied region of Afrin.
One such militia leader, known as “Abu Abbas,” belonging to the “Ahrar al-Sharqiya Militia,” has been implicated in the sale of six residential apartments seized from genuine Kurdish residents in al-Mahmoudiya neighborhood of the occupied city of Afrin.
Each apartment was reportedly sold for $1700. “afrinpost” managed to uncover the identities of four apartment owners affected by these illicit transactions. They are Mohammed Hanan and Salah Hanan, residents of the village of Qasm in the Rajo sub-district; Ahmed Muslim, hailing from the village of Ain al-Hajar in the Mobata sub-district; and Jihad Ibrahim, a resident of the village of Mazen in the Shirawa district.
Furthermore, an IDP originating from southern Aleppo countryside, Mohammed Mustafa bin Jamal, has sold the house of a Kurdish citizen named Mohammed Barakat, from the village of Kukan in the Mobata/Ma’batli sub-district. The house is situated near the new garage on the Aleppo road.
The property was sold to an IDP from Damascus, known as “Abu Sami,” who operates a car wash in the industrial area, for a sum of $1800.
These alarming incidents highlight the ongoing disregard for the rights of Kurdish citizens in Afrin, as well as the complicity of Turkish authorities in facilitating these unlawful property transactions.
