The Turkish-backed “Suleiman Shah/Al-Amshat” militia has uprooted more than 500 pomegranate trees in Ein Dara village, located in the Sherawa sub-district, with the aim of constructing a fish pond. Additionally, they have imposed levies on grape crops in the villages under their control in the occupied countryside of Afrin.
According to our correspondent, members of the “Al-Amshat” militia have uprooted the majority of pomegranate trees from the field of local resident “Abdo Mohammed Najjar” from Ein Dara village. They have begun digging for the construction of a fish pond in the same area.
The correspondent added that the “Al-Amshat” militia imposes a 10% levy on grape leaf production in the villages under its control, as well as a financial levy of one dollar for each grape plant for those who have power of attorney.
In the same context, our correspondent reported that the “Faylaq al-Sham” militia imposes a 10% illicit taxation on every sales invoice for grape harvest on the citizens who own the crops, and a 50% on those who have power of attorney.
With the start of the grape harvest season each year, the fields in the occupied villages of Afrin are subjected to theft in the early stages due to the high market prices. In addition to this, the extortionate taxes imposed by the militias further burden the Kurdish citizens in the occupied region of Afrin.
