Kurdish academic released after nearly two and a half years of enforced disappearance

Yesterday, Monday, the Turkish authorities released Dr. Riyad Manla Muhammad, after he was kidnapped nearly two and a half years ago by al-Hamzat militia in Syria’s occupied Afrin.

“About 300 cars carrying dozens of armed men of pro-Turkey militias drove him at 03:00 pm to his home in the village of Juwaiq, where a luncheon was served on this occasion in a step aimed at beautifying the occupation its militias image, which forcibly disappeared the Kurdish academic despite numerous media reports calling for his release,” sources told afrinpost.

The so-called Nasr Hariri, head of the Muslim Brotherhood coalition and his deputy, Abdel Hakim Bashar, took advantage of his presence in prison and released him for unknown purposes, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated.

Dr. “Riyad Manla Muhammed” was born in 1964 in the village of Juwaiq of Mabata / Maabatli district. He has been forcibly disappeared in the Turkish-backed militia prisons, since his abduction by “al-Hamzat” militia on September 23, 2018 in Afrin-northern Aleppo.

Dr. “Manla Muhammad” holds a Ph.D. in “Business Management”. He worked as a lecturer at the University of Aleppo, then moved with his family to Afrin, and worked with “Autonomous Administration” as head of the Education Authority for 3 months, then continued his work in running a school, kindergarten and restaurant in the city, which was later seized by the militias of “Ahrar al-Sharqiya and al-Hamzat,” and part of the “Al-Asdiqa’” school belonging to him was transferred into a hospital.
