The Turkish occupation authorities continue to raze the hills and archaeological sites and steal burials and archaeological treasures from them, as part of a plan granted to erase the historical and cultural identity of the occupied Afrin region in northern Syria.
In the context, the Directorate of Antiquities of Afrin, which is based in the areas of Al-Shahba, said that the archaeological hill of Halubiya was subjected to a heavy excavation process and the opening of a road at the southeastern end of the hill for the vehicles to the surface of the hill, based on photographs taken on 24 / 8/2019, as well as satellite photos taken on 9/11/2019.
The “Haloubiya” hill-Shara district is located north of Afrin city with a slight deviation towards the east at a distance of approximately 12 km as a line of sight, and it is away from the village of Haloubiya (Elga) for 1 km to the north of it. 244 / a) issued by the Ministry of Culture – General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums of Syria in (1981)
The directorate added that the captured images confirm that the attack on the archaeological site was not carried out in a scientific and systematic way, indicating that the area of these destructive excavations is estimated at (3500) square meters on the Acropolis only, while the actual and precise size of the area and depth of these excavations is not known after the date of capture. The last picture of the site, and the nature of the materials and artifacts that appeared and were extracted from the archaeological hill as a result of these excavations is not known, and how to dispose of them.
The Directorate held the Turkish occupation authorities and the Sultan Murad faction in particular, responsible for razing and destroying the archaeological site.
