The Syrian Democratic Council said that the Syrian regime and the Russian Federation bear the responsibility for Turkey’s occupation of Afrin, calling on the United Nations and the International Security Council to form specialized UN committees to investigate facts and investigate crimes committed by Turkey and its militias.
This came in a statement issued by the Council today, Tuesday, on the occasion of the third anniversary of the launch of the Turkish aggression on Afrin region, which falls on Wednesday 20 January 2021.
The “SDC” added that Turkey is acting as a rogue state and tampering with the security and stability of the region, in violation of international law through its occupation of Syrian lands in order to expand in neighboring countries and violate their sovereignty, in application of its new Ottoman colonial model, according to the statement.
The council indicated that the Turkish forces and their militias have been intended since their occupation of Afrin to commit crimes against humanity and the displacement of more than / 300 / thousand citizens from their lands and homes, and the occupying forces have also implemented a settlement policy with the aim of changing the demography of the region and obliterating its cultural and historical features that indicate the original identity of Afrin, and their crimes have affected people, trees and stones, according to the testimony of international humanitarian and human rights organizations, according to the statement .
The Syrian Democratic Council reiterated its emphasis on the priority of liberating Afrin and the safe return of its original inhabitants, expelling all intruders from it, and removing all manifestations of Turkification carried out by Turkey in the Syrian territories.
SDC turned to the Syrian public opinion, saying that the Afrin issue is not exclusive to anyone, but rather a national issue and the task of liberating it is the responsibility of all Syrians without exception, and that Turkey’s occupation of the Syrian lands deepened the crisis and damaged the Syrian national fabric, and we stress that the solution to the Syrian crisis will be through Syrians joining forces and uniting their forces in order to get rid of occupation, terrorism and tyranny, and build a decentralized democratic, pluralistic Syria, according to the statement.
