Logging work continues in the occupied Kurdish region of Afrin in northern Syria, by the Islamic militants affiliated with the Turkish occupation and the Muslim Brotherhood organization, to achieve financial gains with the increase in demand for firewood as well as for revenge purposes, and to bring about profound changes in the region’s environment.
In this regard, the “Afrinpost” correspondent reported that armed men from the Turkish occupation militias cut down about seventy olive trees owned by the displaced Kurdish citizen Muhammad Othman, from the village of Kotana.
In the village of Kirzele of Sherawa district, gunmen affiliated with the “Ahrar al-Sham” militia cut down about 200 pomegranate trees, owned by the displaced Kurdish citizen, “Ahmed Juma Ali,” according to Afrin Activists Network.
In the context of logging, gunmen affiliated with the “Failaq al-Sham” militia led by “Abu Muhammad al-Homsi” cut down forest trees on the side of Lake Maydanki in Shara / Sharan district.
It is noteworthy that logging increased its frequency after the end of the olive season, and is an important source of money collection, especially with the increase in demand for firewood with the onset of the winter season.
