Kurdish workers within the Water Company in Afrin are under threat from two sides

Afrinpost – Special

The correspondent of “Afrinpost” in the center of the occupied Kurdish region of Afrin in northern Syria stated that the Turkish occupation authorities deliberately rationing the hours of pumping drinking water to the city of Afrin, and invoking the inability of the local council to cover all the expenses of electricity bills to the Turkish Electricity Company, and the Turkish official threatens to stop Water project if the local council continues to be unable to pay the electricity bill.

While the original residents of Afrin are obligated to regularly pay their bills, about 95 percent of the settlers refrain from paying their water bills.

The group and the Kurdish workers of the company receive threats from two sides, the first is the management of the water company that threatens them to be dismissed from work in the event that they are not able to collect all the bills, and the second is the settlers who do not stop threatening them in the event that the water is cut off from them or its flow is weak, noting that the Turkish side is the one who controls the flow of water.

The harassment aims to find a justification in order to separate the Kurdish workers from the original people of Afrin in order to replace them with others from the settlers, by controlling the pumping of water and reducing it to increase the frequency of complaints and then holding the Kurdish workers responsible for the failure to collect the bills due, although the water and electricity company as well as the local council are all tools assigned from the occupation authorities are ready to cover all the expenses of the settlers’ stay in Afrin in the context of the demographic change plan.

On the 26th of last August, the Afrin Post correspondent reported that the local council of the occupation appointed two settlers’ employees to the water company, and appointed three other settlers in the municipality, an employee in the irrigation department, and an accountant in the water company, despite the presence of an accountant in the company.

Since the announcement of the occupation of Afrin region, the Turkish authorities have sought to consolidate the occupation, bypassing the military and security issues to include various sectors and public, educational and religious administrative institutions, and he has dismissed Kurdish teachers and replaced the preachers of the Kurdish mosques and replaced them with others from the settlers.
