The commander-in-chief of the “Syrian Democratic Forces”, Mazloum Abdi, demanded today, Thursday, an international investigation on “the crimes committed in the Syrian area of Afrin since the Turkish army and its factions took over two years ago.”
Abdi said, in an interview with North Press Agency, that the latest “terrorist” bombing that killed dozens of innocent people in the city of Afrin, is the result of the policy of destruction that was adopted by the “Turkish occupation and its mercenaries in the city.
Abdi explained that many reports of international organizations (such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch) document war crimes and widespread violations committed by the Islamic militias affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and the Turkish occupation against the indigenous people in this city for more than two years, as the Turkish forces did not bared the responsibility “as an occupying power”.
He pointed out that human rights institutions in northeastern Syria have also documented violations and crimes in the region, and that the SDF has the ability to provide sufficient evidence to condemn Turkey and its affiliated factions for crimes committed in the Afrin region, as well as in the areas of Sere Kanieh and Tal Abyad.
Abdi called on the United Nations and the guarantor powers in Syria, led by the United States and Russia, to “support an international resolution to conduct an investigation regarding the bombing that has occured in Afrin two days ago.”
The commander-in-chief of QSD added that an investigation into the Afrin bombing and the rest of the violations in this region “will show how false the allegations of Turkey are and the incorrectness of its accusations against our forces launched shortly after the explosion.”
He concluded by saying, “I am not surprised that Ankara exploited the incident with the aim of launching aggression against new Syrian regions, which was what it had previously followed prior to the attack on other areas in Syria.”
