Our correspondent reported that the “Sultan Suleiman Shah Brigade – Al-Amshat” militia recently imposed a levy of $40 on every Kurdish family in the village of Kurzêlê\Qurzehel, in the Sherawa sub-district. The militia claimed the payment was compensation for the death of an Arab IDP who was allegedly killed in the olive fields while guarding the harvest under the militia’s supervision.
In a separate incident, the “Sultan Murad Brigade” militia cut down 55 olive trees belonging to citizen Abdulrahman Bakr (Abu Shukri) near the forested area of Qurtqlaq village in the Sharan sub-district. The trees were felled for firewood, further escalating the ongoing exploitation and violations against the livelihoods of Afrin’s residents.
