Our correspondent in Bulbul, Afrin reported that a figure known as Farhan, the economic officer of the “Sultan Murad Division” militia in several villages of Bulbul sub-district, assaulted a local farmer, Aslan Mdawar, yesterday. The incident occurred while Mdawar and a group of workers were harvesting olives from his field near the village of Kareh/Sagher.
The correspondent added that Farhan justified his actions by claiming that Mdawar had begun the harvest earlier than the date set by the militia. As a result, Farhan expelled the workers and confiscated 15 sacks of olives, each weighing approximately 90 kg.
This incident is part of broader violations and widespread abuses during the olive harvest season, the main source of livelihood for the region’s residents. Despite militia claims of appointing guards to protect the olive fields, large-scale thefts by IDPs continue.
