Afrin, Syria – Armed members of the “Faylaq al-Rahman” militia, under the supervision of their leader Abdel Nasser Shmeir, have reportedly demolished two homes in the village of Qibar, Afrin. The demolition, carried out using bulldozers, took place without any explanation or opposition, according to local sources. Officials from the “Al-Mu’tasim Division” militia, which controls the area, were also present during the incident. The homes in question had been seized by the militia since 2018, and demolition efforts are ongoing.

One of the demolished homes belonged to the late Omar Mamo Shamo, a 66-year-old villager who was found shot dead in his home on May 10, 2018, shortly after the militia entered the village. His family had been forcibly displaced at the time of the incident. The second property belonged to Sabri Hamo Nasser, a forcibly displaced villager who now resides in Australia.

In a related development, the “Al-Mu’tasim Division” militia has reportedly taken control of numerous homes and properties belonging to Kurdish Yazidi residents of the village, the majority of whom have been displaced. Local sources indicate that the militia has instructed the remaining villagers, who are managing the properties of displaced owners, to pay an annual fee of $500 per hectare of agricultural land, communicated through WhatsApp groups.

The situation in Afrin remains tense as property seizures and forced demolitions continue to impact displaced communities, particularly the Kurdish Yazidi population.
