Arbitrary Arrests in Afrin

Afrin, Syria – The “Military Police” militia arrested two civilians on separate occasions, accusing them of past affiliations with the Autonomous Administration, according to our reporter on Afrin.

On September 23, 38-year-old Fawzi Khalil Hassan from the village of Qurtqulaq in Sharan sub-district was arrested in Afrin’s industrial neighborhood on allegations of prior involvement with the Autonomous Administration.

Additionally, on the following day, police forces in Rajo sub-district detained 70-year-old Mohammed Haidar Ibrahim (from the Khjo family), a resident of the town of Baadina. The arrest was made on the grounds that he had participated in a two-hour night watch during the Autonomous Administration’s governance, nearly seven years ago.

Both individuals remain in detention without charges or evidence of any crimes committed, raising concerns about the ongoing arbitrary arrests in the region.
