Pro-Turkey Forces Detain Civilians for Ransom in Afrin Region

According to our reporter, on Friday evening, August 23rd, Turkish forces arrested “Nazmi Mohammed Bakr” (born 1964), a resident of Jindires town. The arrest was made under the pretext that Bakr was a member of the reconciliation committee during the previous Autonomous Administration and that some of his sons are affiliated with the YPG (People’s Protection Units). Noting that Bakr had returned to Jindires from Aleppo about 20 days prior to his arrest.

In related developments, the “Anti-Terrorism Police” militia in Azaz released “Abdul Rahman Mohammed”, a resident of Zaara village in the Bulbul district of Afrin. Mohammed was detained roughly 12 days ago while returning from Aleppo to his home. His release came after a ransom of $5,000 USD was paid.

Additionally, the “Border Guard” militia in the Bulbul sub-district of Afrin released “Riyad Abdul Rahman Hassan”, a resident of Tellef village, located southwest of Afrin city. Hassan was arrested at the border in Azaz while attempting to cross into Turkey to migrate. He was released following the payment of a $3,000 USD ransom.
