Local Resident Arrested, Another Released After Ransom Paid in Afrin

On the evening of August 1, the “Military Police in Afrin” detained Khalil Jemmo, 41, from the village of Barad in Sherwa sub-district, according to our correspondent. Jemmo was arrested at the home of a smuggler from Kherbet Joz in Idlib, near the Fouad Olive Press on the Jindires road in Afrin.

The correspondent noted that Jemmo, who had returned from Aleppo a week prior, was taken into custody without formal charges, and the smuggler was not apprehended.

In a separate development, five days ago, the “Military Police” released Jiwan Hamid, 42, from the village of ‘Ogah in Bulbul sub-district. Hamid had been arrested on July 18, 2024, in Afrin on charges of collaborating with the Autonomous Administration. His release followed the payment of a $4,000 ransom.
