Turkey Cuts Internet in Northern Aleppo as Collective Punishment

afrinpost – exclusive

The Turkish authorities continue to cut internet access for the sixth consecutive day in the occupied areas of northern and eastern Aleppo, as a collective punishment measure following the tearing down and burning of Turkish flags. Additionally, all border crossings between Turkey and Syria have been closed, and PTT offices have been shut down, negatively impacting the economic situation in these areas.

Most residents have resorted to using expensive satellite internet to communicate with the outside world, while others have turned to using data services from Turkish mobile networks. The internet blackout has caused widespread discontent in the occupied regions.

This measure appears to be an attempt by the Turkish authorities to silence anti-Turkey voices and prevent communication among residents, thereby hindering the spread of information about the ongoing arrests conducted by Turkish forces and the “Syrian National Army” militia. These arrests target protesters who oppose the normalization of relations between Ankara and Damascus, the reopening of border crossings, and the persecution and deportation of Syrian refugees in Turkey.
