The wave of arrests of individuals crossing into Turkish territory and those returning to the occupied Afrin region from various displacement areas persists, often under the pretext of false accusations or for financial extortion. Reports indicate the detention of nine citizens, including a minor girl.
Our correspondent reported that on Monday, July 16, 2024, the Border Guard Militia detained seven individuals near the village of Za’ra, close to the border. Among the detainees were two Kurdish citizens, one identified as Hassan Ali Ali (28), while the second individual’s name remains unknown, hailing from the village of Ain al-Hajar in Afrin countryside. The remaining five detainees are from Aleppo city. The detainees were transferred to a prison in the village of Ashkan Gharbi, controlled by the “Suleiman Shah” militia, also known as Al-Amshat. Information suggests that the detainees were severely beaten.
On July 12, 2024, Turkish intelligence, in coordination with the Military Police Militia, arrested a 15-year-old Kurdish girl named Asmahan Mohammed in Al-Mahmoudiyah neighborhood of Afrin city. She was detained for four days on charges of joining the military forces. Asmahan had recently returned from the Shahba region with her mother, while her father is a person with disabilities (mute).
Additionally, the Turkish authorities arrested Kurdish citizen Mohammed Mohammed Ahmad Abdo (42) from the village of Avrazeh approximately ten days ago (around July 7, 2024) in the Al-Mahmoudiyah neighborhood, near Assina’a School. Mohammed had returned from Aleppo city about ten days earlier, while the charges against him remain unknown.
