Turkish-backed Militia Arrests Civilians in Afrin, Demand Ransom

afrinpost-Exclusive

Our sources in Afrin reported that on September 23, 2023, the Turkish-backed militia known as the Civil Police arrested two brothers, “Luqman Hannan Mohammed” (50 years old) and “Osman Mohammed” (45 years old), from the village of Sharqiya in the Bulbul sub-district. The arrests took place in al-Ashrafieh neighborhood of occupied Afrin, on charges of collaborating with the former Autonomous Administration in Afrin.

It’s worth noting that earlier in September, their third brother, “Mustafa Hannan Mohammed,” was arrested by Turkish intelligence and the military police without clear reasons.

The Human Rights Organization – Afrin reported that about 18 days ago, the Civil Police militia in Bulbul arrested “Fahmi Mohammed Sheikho”, (45 years old) from the town of Bulbul, after returning from Aleppo just two days prior.

When Fahmi Sheikho returned to his hometown of Bulbul approximately 20 days ago from Aleppo, he paid a financial fee of $400 to the IDP who had taken over his house in order to reclaim it. However, the Civil Police militia arrested him without specifying the charges and demanded a ransom of $7,000 for his release.

It’s important to note that Fahmi Mohammed Sheikho was formerly employed by the Public Corporation for Drinking Water affiliated with the Syrian regime in Aleppo, and he had no known affiliation or dealings with the former Autonomous Administration in Afrin.
