Reliable sources have reported that the Turkish-affiliated “Suleiman Shah / Al-Amshat” militia is imposing a financial levy of $50 on beneficiaries of monetary aid provided by charitable organizations.
The CTED organization and the Bahar Association have been distributing relief materials to the residents of villages in the Shieh / Sheikh Hadid subdistrict. However, the “Al-Amshat” militia is imposing a “relief fee” on both original residents and IDPs who are recipients of aid from CTED. This fee is imposed solely on citizens, excluding IDPs who are beneficiaries of aid provided by the Bahar Association.
The sources have confirmed that the “Al-Amshat” militia has not exempted even the sick from its levy. They imposed the fee on a cancer patient from the village of Aranda without consideration for his specific condition.
In a special directive for the Shieh subdistrict, “Al-Amshat,” under the orders of its leader known as “Abu Amsha,” imposed a financial levy of $1500 on Kurdish citizens who have recently returned to their villages or those who intend to return.
The leader “Abu Amsha” has assigned his followers, his brother “Saif” and “Abu Hussein Al-Asharna,” to collect the levy from the returning locals, in addition to the “relief fee” of $50 for aid recipients.
It’s worth mentioning that the “Suleiman Shah / Al-Amshat” militia previously imposed a $50 levy on the residents of the Qatari camp in early June 2023. This followed the distribution of $150 by the organization “ACTED” to each family in the camp, which houses earthquake victims from the town of Jindires. The militia threatened to expel anyone who refused to pay.
This incident follows a prior incident where the “Al-Amshat” militia imposed a levy on the residents of the Qatari camp when another organization distributed $150 during the month of Ramadan in 2023.
