On the third day of Eid al-Adha, June 30th, checkpoints manned by Turkish-affiliated militias continue to impose tolls on citizens, while clashes between armed IDPs persist in the occupied city of Afrin.
Our correspondent reported that a checkpoint belonging to the military police at the entrance of Afrin, on the road from Rajo, is imposing a toll of 20 Turkish liras on every vehicle coming from Rajo to Afrin under the guise of “fees for the personnel.”
Furthermore, our correspondent added that two fights broke out among IDPs during the distribution of meat shares earlier today. The first altercation took place near the former Rangin Games City on the highway, while the second occurred near al-Ashrafieh neighborhood park, where the IDPs resorted to using firearms and fired shots into the air.
In another incident, armed thieves took advantage of the Eid atmosphere and stole a generator, water pump, and hoses from a pomegranate orchard located on the road to Ain Dara village. The property belongs to Mr. Mohammad Issa, a resident of the village, with the stolen items valued at two thousand dollars.
On June 29th, two individuals were injured in a fight that broke out among IDPs from the Baggara clan, who originally hail from Aleppo. The altercation occurred during the distribution of sacrificial meat in al-Ashrafieh neighborhood on Sarfis road.
Prior to Eid, on June 25th, the traffic police under Turkish authorities in Afrin imposed an Eid toll on passing vehicles at military police checkpoints in the occupied city. The toll amounted to ten Turkish liras per car.
For vehicles with expired licenses or license plates not issued by the Afrin Traffic Police, a toll of twenty Turkish liras was imposed. Additionally, individuals without a valid driving certificate issued by the local council were subject to tolls ranging from twenty to fifty Turkish liras.
