A joint delegation from the United Nations and the Syrian Interim Government visited and inspected the Medanki Lake Dam on July 12th, while the Turkish authorities continue to cut off water from the dam to fill the Hatay Dam in Turkey.
Our sources reported that the water level of the Medanki Dam has dropped by approximately twenty meters due to the Turkish authorities diverting the water to fill the Hatay Dam, which was constructed on the Turkish side opposite the village of Hamam in the Jindires sub-district, in addition to the scarcity of rainfall.
The dam management has repeatedly prevented the pumping of water from the irrigation canals of the Medanki Dam, which has caused frustration among farmers and agriculturalists due to the damage inflicted on their crops and orchards in the occupied Afrin region.
The local council in Afrin, affiliated with the Turkish authorities, mentioned on its Facebook page that the purpose of the delegation’s visit is to inspect the technical and mechanical equipment in the dam building, and to review the engineering plans and maintenance work following the earthquake that occurred in February 2023.
The visit is scheduled to last for two days, during which the delegation will monitor the water level and conduct geological and topographic surveys.
