Police Chief Extorts Merchants and Engages in Theft in Rajo, Afrin

afrinpost– Exclusive

The head of the military police militia in the town of Rajo has been imposing exorbitant extortion fees on local traders, demanding a hefty sum of $1,000 each under the pretense of expanding the headquarters’ prison facility. Those who refuse to comply with this outrageous demand face indirect threats of imprisonment. Adding to the chaos, militia members have been involved in looting merchants’ warehouses.

Our correspondent has learned that approximately a month ago, the chief of Rajo’s military police militia imposed the hefty extortion fee on several traders, cynically justifying it as funds for constructing new prison cells, ironically claiming that “we want the prison to be clean when you end up there.”

Furthermore, the incident of theft took place on June 22, when Mr. Amir Hussein Ali, a resident of Haji Khalil village and a prominent merchant who owns a warehouse in Rajo, fell victim to robbery. The thieves managed to steal 50 oil cans (each 16 liters) from his storage facility, located at a prominent corner of the main market street in Rajo, despite the continuous presence of military patrols during nighttime.

According to confidential sources, a vehicle loaded with stolen oil barrels was spotted entering the military police headquarters in Rajo, raising concerns about the involvement of the militia in this nefarious activity. The actions of the militia leader and his members have caused widespread fear and unrest among the local community in Rajo.
