Turkish Forces Detain Kurdish Young Man for Filming his Own Store in Afrin

afrinpost – Exclusive

The Turkish-affiliated military police militia arrested the young man Heydar Hussein Bakr, hails from Haji Khalil village in the Rajo sub-district, on charges of filming. The incident occurred yesterday, May 16th.

Mr. Bakr had filmed a video of his shoe store and the stall he set up in front of his shop in the market of Rajo town. The Rajo police used this as a pretext to arrest him. However, he was released on the same day.

It is worth noting that the strict scrutiny on preventing filming only targets Kurdish citizens, not IDPs. On May 6th, the Rajo police militia arrested two Kurdish citizens, Adham Murad Salman (50 years old) and Abdulqader Othman Rashid, from their homes in Haj Khalil village in the Rajuo sub-district, on charges of recording videos and sending them to the media.

afrinpost has documented 15 cases of arrest and abduction since the beginning of May 2023 until yesterday, May 16th, targeting residents of Afrin, including a minor girl. Additionally, six cases of release have been documented.
