Eight young Syrian men attempting to enter Turkish territory through smuggling routes near the Bab al-Hawa border crossing were brutally beaten by Turkish border guards on Saturday night. The attack resulted in the death of one of the young men, Abdul Razzaq Ahmed al-Qastal, from the village of Zardana in the eastern Hama countryside, while the rest suffered various injuries and fractures.
According to a reporter for “afrinpost“, the Turkish border guards arrested the eight young men and savagely assaulted them with sticks, kicks, and iron bars, as well as with light machine gun butts, resulting in severe injuries. The guards delivered the young men to Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militants at the Bab al-Hawa crossing on Sunday morning.
Abdul Razzaq Ahmed al-Qastal died from his injuries at a hospital near the border, where he was taken for treatment. He was beaten to death after crossing the border into Turkish territory before being handed over to HTS.
This is not the first time that Turkish border guards have assaulted Syrian refugees attempting to cross into Turkey. Earlier this year, on February 11th, guards beat two young men from Darat Izza, Aleppo, when they tried to enter Turkish territory.
