Al-Hamza militia cuts down olive trees in Syria’s Afrin, footage shows

Locals sent video footage to our website showing the Turkish-backed militia group known as the “Hamza/al-Hamzat Division” cutting down dozens of olive trees, both partially and completely, in the village of Gewrika in the Jindires sub-district of occupied Afrin in northern Syria.

According to the footage, the militia group cut down around 100 trees belonging to the people of Gewrika, including 30 trees owned entirely by citizen “Mohammad Tato” and others belonging to “Hajj Nafi’ and Mohammad Tatrou” near the driving school. In addition, the militia group cut down 12 almond trees and 10 olive trees belonging to citizen “Rezan Jamil Abdou.”

Our reporter there said that the Hamzat Division militants also cut down 45 olive trees in the village of Ka’ani Gewrik, some belonging to “Fawzi Hassan Misto” and others belonging to “Haydar Misto” from the residents of Qojuma village in Jindires sub-district.

Furthermore, IDPs from Homs who work for the “Malek Shah” militia cut down 30 olive trees and four walnut trees near Lake Medanki on March 4th, belonging to citizen “Mohammad Bahri Rashid” from the town of Ba’rava in the Sharan sub-district.
