Reliable sources in Afrin confirmed that the elderly citizen “Akram Haj Ali Abu Ramzy,” 84 years old, from the village of Jwaiq, was beaten by two gunmen, within his land located near the Afrin-Raju road, threatening to kill him if he returned to his land.
According to the sources, the elderly “Abu Ramzi” was going to inspect his land when he was shocked by the fact that the gunmen had logged 17 olive trees, some of which were completely uprooted and others partially. Meanwhile, two gunmen arrived and got off their motorcycle and started shouting at him and asking about the reason for his presence in the field. When the old Kurdish man answered “It is my land,” they beat him, expelled him, and threatened to kill him if he returned to his land again.
A media activist in the Turkish-controlled areas in the northern countryside of Aleppo commented on the attack, “Gangs are playing and having fun without any deterrence, as if we are in a jungle and monsters are the ones ruling..!”
The logging operation is the second of its kind that the land of the citizen “Abu Ramzi” is exposed to. On 3/5/2020, the Turkish-backed “Al-Hamza / Al-Hamzat Division” militia cut down 160 olive trees from his land, and sold the firewood in Al-Ashrafieh neighborhood.
The cases of assault and attacking the indigenous Kurdish people of Afrin, including women, men and the elderly, are increasing and repeating on a daily basis, in light of the security chaos and the absence of accountability or a law that protects civilians and defenseless people in the occupied Afrin region.
On 7/19/2022, IDPs loyal to Turkey from the southern countryside of Aleppo assaulted the Kurdish elderly “Hassan Musa” (65 years old) in the town of Mobata, after he asked them not to tend their sheep on his lands planted with olive trees.
Also on 6/14/2022, a group of IDPs in the village of Ba’i in Sherawa brutally beat the elderly Kurdish man “Nasser Omar Alloush”, which led to the breaking of his right arm and leg, in addition to wounds and bruises throughout his body.
