Medical cadres in Afrin: cutting off fuel and medicine to have dire consequences for patients

afrinpost – Follow-up

The medical cadres in the Afrin region denounced the siege imposed by the Syrian government on the al-Shahba area and the forcibly displaced people of Afrin in the northern countryside of Aleppo, and pointed out its dire consequences for patients, as well as the international silence in this regard.

This came in an official statement issued by dozens of medical cadres of the Afrin region, who are located in Avrin Hospital in Fafin district in al-Shahba canton, on Tuesday.

The statement stated: “For nearly 5 years of the tragedy and crime of the occupation of Afrin, its displaced people to al-Shahba canton have been suffering from conditions of siege and restrictions on them by preventing the entry of food supplies, medication, hospital supplies and fuel to al-Shahba.”

“However, the aforementioned siege, more than two months ago, has increased in intensity and severity, and the conditions of those displaced have become more tragic, as basic materials, fuel, medicine and medical supplies have been prevented from entering in general, which threatens a real humanitarian catastrophe, especially in the harsh winter conditions.” the statement added.

The statement stressed the dire consequences of the complete cutting off of the supply of fuel and medicinal materials on the conditions of patients, especially those in intensive care units, and those in urgent need of surgical interventions.

It concluded by denouncing the silence of the countries and the influential forces concerned with the Syrian issue, as well as the human rights and humanitarian organizations, towards these pressures and practices.”
