“Al-Ahbab” extremist group knock on doors to hold Friday prayers, in Syria’s Afrin

afrinpost – Special

Our sources in Affrin stated that a group of IDP sheikhs from the extremist Islamic “Al-Ahbab” group, after they finished their prayers in Shawakh Mosque in the old neighborhood of Afrin, knocked on the doors and invited the people to attend the Friday sermon.

The sources had spotted the “Al-Ahbab” group making tours inside the city of Afrin, knocking on doors and distributing leaflets and brochures encouraging women to wear Islamic dress.

This groups began to spread in Afrin region since the beginning of 2021, when it was noticed that veiled women appeared in the city’s streets under the name “Habibat Allah,” where they entered the shops run by women, and worked to spread extremist ideas among them. Later, it expanded its activity to the Yazidi Kurdish villages and forced them to pronounce the two testimonies of faith for embracing Islam, and a group of IDPs were roaming the shops and forcing them to go to mosques.

This comes in the context of the Turkish authorities encouraging sectarian policy, as it opened a number of religious institutes and bodies, including the “Al-Fath Al-Mubin Institute” and the Imam Khatib School “Pasha Karaca.”
