A human rights organization: The disappearance of 116 people during September have been documented … in Afrin

Today, Monday, Syrians for Truth and Justice issued a report on the kidnapping in the occupied Kurdish region of Afrin in northern Syria, in which it indicated that it had documented more than 116 kidnappings during the month of September.

The organization stated that “the intensity of arrests and disappearances increased in the Syrian Kurdish region of Afrin during the month of September 2020, despite the demands of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria (in the middle of the same month) for (an immediate cessation of all forms of detention). With the isolation and the release of all arbitrarily detained persons, and stressing on Turkey to exert more efforts to ensure public order and public safety in the areas under its control to prevent the “Syrian National Army” from committing violations). These demands came after the “Committee” documented in its latest report the establishment of the “National Army” “The perpetration of hostage-taking, cruel treatment, torture and rape in and around Afrin (see paragraphs 52 to 58). The organization continued: “Through its network of researchers distributed throughout Afrin regions, Syrians for Truth and Justice was able to record the arrest / detention and disappearance of at least 116 people during September 2020, including 6 women and one girl, in a significant increase compared to the months of June, when 40 arrests were documented, [2] and July and August 2020, when 101 arrests were documented in both of them. [3]

It stated that “on the other hand, “Syrians” were able to document the release of 56 cases from a group of detainees, during the month of September 2020, including two women, after part of them, they and / or their relatives, had paid fines / bail, some of which reached 1000 Turkish liras, and some were in Syrian pound, and ranged between 150 and 700 thousand Syrian liras, while the fate of 60 people remains unknown, including 4 women and a girl (until the date of writing this report on October 15, 2020).

The organization pointed out that the arrests, which took place in seven areas, were carried out mostly by the militias of the “Military Police”, “Failaq al-Sham,” “Ahrar al-Sharqiya,” “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiya,” “Liwa Waqqas,” “Liwa Al-Shamal” and “Sultan Murad Division The “113 Brigade” and “The 114th Brigade”.
